that looks like "old" syntax, which doesn't mix with "cn=config" syntax
the way you do it.

There are a lot of pages out there that tell you to convert the old
files using "slaptest", but I think I can quote Howard Chu from 2012[1]:

Read schema/openldap.ldif
===8<===8<===8<===

... because it has a description on how to convert .schema to .ldif.
