I don't think you understand what I wrote. If things are set up correctly then:

MS-Outlook requests "c", and gets "c"
Netscape requests "countryName", and gets "countryName"

There is no need for messing with the schema. You just have to configure the back-meta and/or back-ldap parts to function like you want.
