"charity" is NOT asking someone who knows a subject to point out the
important points. No one here has said they are unwilling to do work.
What seems (to me) to be happening is that the people who have the
knowledge seem to expect someone else to document it for them. I'm
willing to write documentation. I lack the depth of knowledge I
personally feel is required to do it well. But the hell with it, I'll
do it (as I just wrote to Quannah) and at least we'll have something.
Maybe the people who do have the knowledge can be bothered to take the
time to improve on what I come up with.

Let's be clear here. Are you saying "post it to the ITS, do it
yourself, or shut up" (that's probably blunter than you intended, but I
want to make sure I understand what you are saying) ???

Howard, I have no true knowledge of what you or your company does. I
have seen you post about versions of OpenLDAP and friends for Solaris
before.

I can't pay for anything. I'm not the one that controls the purse
strings. Now, when I find that money tree, then this all becomes play
and I'm going to go read every word of all the documentation in the
world three or four times just for the fun of it, until then, I'll keep
doing what I'm doing. At least I'm moving forward. They haven't
managed to get Microsoft AD in here to replace our Kerberos/LDAP
environment yet... although they're still trying, we just started a four
week "freebie" from Microsoft to design an AD setup for us (I love my
management....).
