I couldn't agree more. I'm not even real comfortable with letting the 
server sort first, so I'm building that functionality into my client.

As you suggest, for those times it is needed, a middleware piece is 
the right way to go about it, but my current thinking is that this 
will really only be necessary for _very_ thin clients.
