I need to convert from an antique iPlanet LDAP (4.1) running on Windows to OpenLDAP. Sun wants to charge us a fortune to convert to their latest and greatest.

I am not an expert on LDAP all we use it for is for our perl cgi scripts to verify passwords. We have the default schema with our own o=mydomain.com (with our domain here), all of our users are in that o=.

I can get the iPlanet LDAP server to generate an LDIF, now here is the clincher will the OpenLDAP server be able to read in that LDIF file and populate our user database. Again we have no schema, just what came with it.

We did have to modify our iPlanet directory to make it work with OpenLDAP. The script we wrote is available at <http://www.wfu.edu/~borwicjh/software/iplanet-to-openldap.pl>. You'll have to modify the code, but it may help get you started.
