(Answer) (Category) OpenLDAP Faq-O-Matic : (Category) OpenLDAP Software FAQ : (Category) Configuration : (Category) SLAPD Configuration : (Category) Overlays : (Answer) Collective attributes: the "collect" overlay (OpenLDAP 2.3)
The collect overlay provides basic support for collective attributes to the underlying database.

This is essentially a demonstrator overlay.

The uninitiated might think of collective attributes as "wildcard" attributes.
A collective attribute is defined for a "parent" object and returned in response to queries for child objects. It may be necessary to modify schema to allow the parent object to have the required attributes - e.g., an "organizationalUnit" doesn't have the same attributes as child "person" objects.
Be warned that the current (2.4.38) version may cause slapd crashes if the collective attribute is also defined on the child object.
