(Answer) (Category) OpenLDAP Faq-O-Matic : (Category) OpenLDAP Software FAQ : (Category) Configuration : (Category) SLAPD Configuration : (Category) Overlays : (Answer) Subordinate database glueing: the "glue" overlay (OpenLDAP 2.3)
The glue overlay, first released with OpenLDAP 2.3, implements the database glueing feature in a manner that is transparent to slapd.

The overlay must be configured inside the database that represents the root of the glued naming context. It must be the first overlay of the root database. All subordinate databases must be explicitly listed by means of the glue-sub directive. All glued databases must have the same rootdn.

The glue overlay is no longer exposed; the glue feature is still implemented as an overlay, but this is automatically instantiated when the related directive appears in slapd.conf(5).

The syntax reverted to that of the glue feature in OpenLDAP 2.2.

See the subordinate directive in slapd.conf(5) for details.
