Short answer: it depends; for example, replication between different
versions is one place where issues may arise.  You can typically do it
when the master is > 2.1 and the slave is <= 2.1, but you need special
care in setting up the master.  There's some discussion about this at
least in the archives (not sure about the FAQ).  In any case, consider
that you're talking about pre-historic software: right now, even 2.2 is
considered historic.  You should definitely douwnload and build yourself
2.3.18, it'll save you a lot of headhaches.
