For OID, there is some place to officially register (I never remember
where, but it is free).

Think you're thinking of this page at IANA: http://www.iana.org/cgi-bin/enterprise.pl

hi,

Is it really worth having an Enterprise OID?

Yes.

What are they used for in the
grand scheme of things (besides my contact directory/DB)?

Pretty much anything in the world that has OID's. SNMP is another quick example.

We are a small
company of about 50 emploies and just received ISO 9001:2002
certification; so keeping things in order is always a good thing.
