You may run the slave on the same machine, but using a different port
and a different slapd.conf.
That is:
./slapd -h "ldap:/// would run your master on port 389
./slapd -f /an/other/slapd.conf -h "ldap://0.0.0.0:9001
would rund your slave on port 9001
In your slave's slapd.conf you have to point to a different pitfile,
argsfile and directory.
