ldap add

hi to all
   Well i did try to add an record into the ldap ...and it gives me the
following results

adding new entry "userid=Manager,dc=xxx,dc=mahindrabt,dc=com"
ldap_add: Referral

ldif_record() = 10

when i try to retrive a record it doesnt show me any records .Is it that
my addition is wrong or am i using the ldap search wrongly ...The latter
doesnt seem to be the case .
help would be really appreciated
