For me it went very smoothly.

1. Extract the 1.2 database to a ldif
        ldbmcat -n id2entry.dbb > /tmp/db.ldif

2. Upgrade

3. Create the 2.0 database from the previous ldif
        slapadd -l /tmp/db.ldif -b SUFFIX 

Point tree will most likley file (it did for me) with
a number of errors, a little difficult to understand.
The big thing is that OpenLDAP2 is more restrictive
about the schemas. Make sure that you have schema entries
for all the objectclasses you are using...
