What's your application? You could add LDAP to lbnamed in ten lines of
perl and define the zone as a stub in your "real" named.

If you don't need zone transfers (incremental and decaffeinated) and
recursion (old style and new) and caching (weighted by authority) and
dnssec and a zillion other features, you don't need BIND.
