where is the schema definition?

Sorry for my ignorance but where exactly is the schema definition in
OpenLDAP?  slap.oc.conf tells me which attributes are required /
optional for a given objectclass.  Where do I find the definition of
the values an attribute can take (besides the RFCs) or the object
hierarchy itself?
