OpenLDAP, Netscape and Linux

Hello.

I've been using Netscape with slapd on a network of Linux boxes, with
some problems. I remember Netscape raising a number of errors now
and then when using slapd as directory server. I never had any chance
of checking whether it works with Netscape DS.
The most common error is a

Failed to search 'mysuffix' due to LDAP error 'Unknown error'
(0xFFFFFFFF)

that happens about 1 out of 3 searches even after some results are
coming
out of the server. It is really unpredictable, because in some cases it
happens
regardless of the machine and network configuration; in my home network,

two similar computers with exactly the same Linux distribution (RedHat
5.2),
the failure frequency of the one that hosts the server is even higher, 1
out of 2,
while the client doesn't fail at all!
Another problem is that the URL

        ldap:///mysuffix

which should be legal, meaning "use the default host", always causes
Netscape
to sigsegv.
Did anybody else find any occurrence of such problems, and does anybody
have a fix
for any of them?

Thanks in advance.
