Hi,
You can restrict access to either users, groups or hosts. LDAP data is
restricted to only the Directory Manager by default, so you can grant access
to only those who you wish to.  In fact you'll probably find LDAP ACL access
alot more flexible than any other system you've used before.

Sorry I don't know OpenLDAP ACL syntax, so you'll have to check the docs or
see if someone else on the group can answer your question.
