Re: Source of Information/Tools for Beginner

Hi Greg,

I asked a similar question a couple fo weeks ago. I was just
investigating the whole LDAP directory idea, and I just wanted some
GUI which I could use to enter data into my database - I did not
have a large amount of data which I needed to enter into the db.

I used the Java-based client by Jerry Gawor, available from
<http://www.iit.edu/~gawojar/>. I didn't have the Java runtime
environment installed on my machine, so I had to download that
aswell. I chose to install it on one of our solaris machines, and I
found that I had to install some solaris os patches, so it ended up
taking about 1/2 day to set it up correctly.

I also got the following responses when I sought help.

Hope this helps,
Sean.

I'm working one a GUI client, check it out at http://biot.com/gq/
It doesn't support adding new entries yet, but you can edit existing
entries and add values to attributes etc.

There is sample code on my site is a working (just) PHP based
LDAP
browser, editor etc. I will try to release version 0.2.5 this month &
probably contrib to openldap. (basically I have a working version
here,
which I use to edit my database (testing of about 2000 address - not
accounts!)

The other place to look: - Perl, the PerlAPI had a sample CGI to edit
&
update
a database
There is a C based CGI web gateway, Web500gw
