I am surprised that negative offsets are not allowed, as allowed       
in many GUI list controls.  Possibly the designers intend that
reversing sorting be used instead.  I note, however, that reverse     
sorting may require the client to reverse the results to get the
desired behavior in the GUI.  Adding negative offsets to this control    
is likely straight forward.
