An LDAPv3 server should be able to accept recognize an attribute
type by its OID or any of its NAMEs. The same should not be
expected from an LDAPv2 server... they often OID-less.

s/the textual name/a textual name/

That is, an attribute type can have one or more textual names.
The server should one of the them (assuming it knows the names).
