Mandatory Operational Attributes

There's a disparity among two popular LDAP RFCs surrounding certain entry level Operational Attributes.  At the end of section 3.2.1 of RFC2251, it states that the Operational Attributes creatorsName, createTimestamp, modifiersName, modifyTimestamp, and subschemaSubentry MAY be present on Entries.  Section 5.1 of RFC2252 implies that these same attributes are mandatory to implement.

Has this been brought up before?  If so, was any kind of consensus reached?
