I think that this could be useful for a sophisticated client to
resolve an ambiguity, but I don't think really helps the server side
problems I was talking about.   

A couple of notes on this point in passing.

1) Some LDAP servers are not very good at dealing with the mandatory
object identifiers.  One well know product just allocates them
automatically if they are not provided.   

2) There needs to be a clear IESG enformcement that all LDAP schema specs
ensure such OIDs are correctly allocated.
