Fixed for 2.5 in ITS#8872, not being backported to 2.4.

Renaming configure.in to configure.ac is as it is in MR is not enough to fix that issue :/

This might be a 2.6 issue, definitely not something for 2.5.

Gentoo Linux is now using autoconf 2.70+ and other distributions will be soon.

That's not really relevant, given that there are zero instances of AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE in the 2.5 source tree.

A patch against master is welcome for any autoconf 2.7 issue(s) that may exist.

2.4.x is the current stable release, so that's the relevance.

OpenLDAP 2.4 requires autoconf 2.59, and that will not change as it's not open for development.

OpenLDAP 2.5 is near release and has already been updated for autoconf 2.69.

Again, a patch against master is welcome, but likely won't be applied until OpenlDAP 2.6.

Issue is that correctly done changes for ac 2.71 will be 100% backlward compatible with ac 39.

Latest stable versiuon of the autoconf is 2.71.
2.66 has been released in May 2012 (NINE years ago).

Ooops! openSUSE Tumbleweed already has autoconf 2.69. Which issues will this cause?

As an OpenLDAP downstream packager I don't really have control over this.

Just checked and only change related to autoconf is https://git.openldap.org/openldap/openldap/-/commit/5adcdb76 and that patch does not fix autoconf 2.71 issues. There is much more missing [] quites issues als all necessary dfixes ehen correctly implemented will be backward compatible even to autoconf 2.13.

BTW all files from build/ should be removed from git repo because those files are are added by "autoreconf -fiv" command.
Any files added by that command should net be maintained in git repo and names oof those files should be added to .gitignore.

Irrelevant. End users are not supposed to be running autoconf, they're
supposed to use the configure script we already generated.

You've already been told 2.4 development is ended and nothing is going
to be changed here. This ticket is closed.

This is a 2.6.0 target bug, it should remain open for that.  Any discussion about 2.4 (or 2.5) remains off topic.

I must regenerate lintool files nbecause openldap delevers broken ltmain.sh.
After that needs to be regenerated autoconf files.

And again: none of the autoconf/automake/autoheader/libtool files should be held in VCS.

Few projects already stared usig new features of the new autoconf 2.70+.
One of those feaures is new switch --runstatedir=<dir>.
Bewcause of that I've changed my rpm %configiure macrro and I'm now regenering all ac/am/ah/lt files to test is package autoconf ready,.
I have +6k spource packages and in that set only openldap is not ac 2.71 ready Mostly because openldap do not decided to move ao automake as well by this inm last +12 years according to https://git.openldap.org/openldap/openldap/-/commits/master?utf8=%E2%9C%93&search=autoconf openldap had only 7 updates.

Neverteless without regenerate openldap ac files my %configure macro fails with:

openldap build framework even on master branmch is not ac 2.71 ready.
Anda one more time: correctly fixed [] quotes wqill mot break anything on use openldap with older autoconf.
That is just hard fact.
