(Answer) (Category) OpenLDAP Faq-O-Matic : (Category) OpenLDAP Software FAQ : (Category) Configuration : (Category) General Client Configuration : (Answer) How do I specify default base DN for clients?
OpenLDAP supports the ldap.conf(5) configuration file. You can use this file to specify a number of defaults for OpenLDAP clients. Normally this file in OpenLDAP configuration directory, normally /usr/local/etc/openldap.

The following example sets the default base dn to 'dc=OpenLDAP, dc=Org'.

#
# ldap.conf for Example.Net
#
BASE dc=example,dc=net

Note: The ldap.conf(5) described is specific to OpenLDAP and only affects clients designed for and built with OpenLDAP libraries.
