modifyTimestamp limitations

Hi,

I was trying to build a search filter to get all new entries on the
directory  modified (or created) after certain time, and after searching
the list I found that the operational attribute "modifyTimestamp" can be
used for this search.

I also found from the list that a filter like
'(modifyTimestamp>=200301231010Z)' won't work!

Is this a limitation in the LDAP specification it self, or is it OpenLDAP
problem?
