Removing Attributes

I recently removed a couple of attributes from my own schema.  I noticed
that if I do not delete the attributes from LDAP before using the new
schema, I can no longer see reference the attributes even though they are 
still being stored in the record.

What happens to these attributes that are depricated?  Would it cause a 
storage problem for me to just start using the new schema without deleting 
the depricated attributes?
