Use of MD5 for indexing

Not sure if MD5 is fast enough for use indexing use.
A less expensive alternative might be appropriate.
Anyone what to do some analysis of digest algorithms?
(or post a decent a URI to an existing analysis)

Also, we currently use -llutil's MD5.  It might be
appropriate to use any find at configure time... as
these are likely to be optimized for the the
platform.

Anyways, this might be a fun little project for some
one...  I'm off to code other stuff.
