How do I allow root to edit mdb database?

How do I allow root aka dn.exact=gidNumber=0+uidNumber=0,cn=peercred,cn=external to edit olcDatabase={1}mdb,cn=config. I am trying to configure ldapscripts, but the idea of having a password in the clear is just disturbing.

Ldapscripts is in sbin and needs to be ran by someone with root privileges anyways. The easiest way of getting around having a password in the clear would be SASL binding root and mapping it to olcRootDN: when it binds so root can modify the directory tree when it executes ldapscripts.
