This is a combination Samba and NSS questions (and I suspect you may be
confusing those two things), it doesn't specifically have anything to
do with OpenLDAP. I'd suggest subscribing to the nss_ldap list and
asking there.
P.S. Unless 'id {username}' works, Samba never will, so start there.
