3) use the 'cn' attribute instead.  Its syntax allows UTF-8 strings.
'posixAccount' allows that attribute.

I seem to remember that at least glibc's PAM or NSS or whatever reads
'cn' if the entry has no 'gecos'.  What other clients do I don't know.
