uppercase

hello list 

we use openldap2-2.1.4-70 on Suse 8.1
when i make a 
"ldapsearch -x  alias=Alois.blasbichler uid"  i dont get results
with
"ldapsearch -x  alias=alois.blasbichler uid"  i see the entry :
dn: uid=ablasbichler,cn=users,dc=sb-brixen,dc=it
uid: ablasbichler

with the old openldap 1.2 the search worked with uppercase too

is this a new setting, a bug ?
