Trouble with ldapsearch and boolean attributetype

Running 2.1.8 on FreeBSD 4.6-STABLE. Have a boolean attributetype:
  attributetype ( 1.3.6.1.4.1.14324.2.6 NAME 'active'
    SYNTAX 1.3.6.1.4.1.1466.115.121.1.7 SINGLE-VALUE )

ldapsearch with '(cn=test)' reveals:
  ...
  active: TRUE
  ...

However, the same ldapsearch with '(active=TRUE)' returns nothing. Is
this a bug in 2.1.8?
