The OpenLDAP Core team is reviewing a proposal to shutdown
this list.   This list was chartered as a general mailing
list.  It was created in the absence of other well maintained
general mailing lists.  However, as the list is hosted by
OpenLDAP, it has been difficult to keep the list on charter.
Of late, the list has devolved into a clone of the
OpenLDAP-Software list.

As the U-Mich LDAP <ldap@umich.edu> list has evolved into
the community recognized general LDAP mailing list and is
currently well maintained, it has been proposed that the
openldap-general list shutdown and the project refer general
LDAP posts to the U-Mich LDAP list.  OpenLDAP would continue
to provide lists specific to OpenLDAP software.

The OpenLDAP-core team hopes to take action on this matter
within a couple of weeks.  Your comments on this proposal
are solicited.  Comments posted to this list or mailed to
<postmaster@openldap.org> by 6 March 2001 will be considered.
