As clearly written in ldap.conf(5), the client's cert is user-only, so
ldap.conf has nothing to do with it.  It could only be in "~/ldaprc" or
"~/.ldaprc" or "`pwd`/ldaprc" or "~/$LDAPRC", or "`pwd`/$LDAPRC", or ...
