Building 2.3.18

Yes, I got the go-ahead :-)

I normally build from FreeBSD ports, but in this case they're still stuck
on 2.3.11 (and it doesn't even pass its tests!), so I'm having to build
from source.

1) Anyone have "reasonable" configuration options for FreeBSD? I know
   about "CPPFLAGS=-I/usr/local/include/db42" etc.

2) How do I know what was really configured? In 2.2, the information
was right at the top of config.status. All I can see in 2.3.18
   is:

configured by ./configure, generated by GNU Autoconf 2.59,
     with options \" 'CPPFLAGS=-I/usr/local/include/db42' 'CPP=/usr/libexec/cpp' 'LDFLAGS=-L/usr/local/lib/db42'\"

when configured with (amongst other attempts):

     env CPP=... ./configure --enable-overlays=yes

but there's no sign of that anywhere, and not all overlays are built.
