LDAP server not working

my ldap server was smoothly running untill we had a sudden power
outage few hours back, now, i can't connect to LDAP server.
i'm using this ldap server only to provide addressbook facility for
my email users.
i tried restarting the slapd few times, it restarted without any errors
but, cant execute any ldapsearch queries.
what may cause this problem?
