You mean having slurpd?

In this case, I have to build another ldap slapd server on the secondary
server, and add the slurpd daemon on the primary... right?

Yes, that would generally be the idea. :) If you go with Buchan's suggestion, you most likely still have to do the same thing, as it is generally useful to have the ldap servers stay in synch.
