rpm -qa says:
openldap-2.0.27-8

O.k. for the time being; you'll want to upgrade at some time in the
future.

You might actually be better off upgrading first, before you create a production directory. 2.0.x allows lots of schema inconsistencies in the directory which later versions will barf on. That's probably the reason why Redhat kept 2.0.x even in their RHEL flagship; there are enough production directories out there which will break after an upgrade, to make the transition a support nightmare. Since you're starting fresh, better face the >2.0.x consistency requirements before you're in production. 2.1.something is in Fedora.
