I am running into a weird problem that I can not figure out. When I
issue the command "getent passwd" I get only about 500 users from both
local accounts and in ldap, but I have 20000 users in ldap. I can not
figure out why it is not showing all of the users.

The "id" command works fine, I am able to get uid and gid information
fine. I am running an older version of openldap, 2.0.25 ( working on
upgrading), with padls, nss_ldap 202 and pam_ldap 167. If anymore
informaton is needed just let me know and I will provide.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

Most directory servers have a search limit defined. It sounds like your server has a search limit of 500 defined.
