rootdn          "uid=astrldapadmin,realm=LSA.UMICH.EDU,cn=gssapi,cn=auth"
^^^^^^^^^^

I'd also think from this that your root DN should be uid=<whatever you bind as>,ou=admin,dc=astro-lsa-umich,dc=edu
