Re: Had enough of this

I just want to say I think the current Admin manual and content of the
FAQ-O-Matic is excellent stuff; I find it clear and concise.

I think the best this alot of people could do (it is what I did first)
is read a 'generic' LDAP text like "Understanding and Deploying LDAP
Directory Services" so they have a clear idea what is trying to be
accomplished.

So call it a FASAQ (Frequently And Seldom Asked Questions). :) There
are lots of seldom asked questions in there already, IMHO.

Well, as someone who writes LDAP documentation (both public and not), I
can tell you this is really a sticking point. No one has "just" LDAP -
you're always using LDAP + Something/Manything else; and lack of
understanding of those something/manything gets cast back on OpenLDAP.

The FAQ-O-Matic does contain "Note that answers to specific questions
about LDAP-enablement of a particular application can often be found in
FAQs (and other documentation) associated with the application. If you
cannot find an answer to a question specific to a particular
application, you should make use of mailing lists (and their archives)
supporting the particular application." Maybe it should be bold and
blinking....
