MySQL Backend for integration with existing setup

Hello All,

I know that having a mysql database backend is not good for performance.

Having said that, I would like to have a server designated that would have a
MySQL backend so that I can integrate with our current setup.

I would like to replicate the data to "slave" OpenLDAP servers running
faster backends.

Is this possible?  Anyone doing this?  Any advice/suggestions?
