Thanks to a suggestion by Greg Matthews, the root of my DB corruption issues seems to have been misleading text in the Admin guide. The guide suggest stopping the server (at worst) with "kill -INT" to prevent DB corruption. However, this does cause corruption (at least on Debian).

Greg's suggestion to use "HUP" or "TERM" instead have stopped this issue (Thanks again!).

Perhaps the Admin guide should be updated?
