(urgent) filter strangeness

After upgrading to 2.1.17, the following filter doesn't work:

(&(|(!(ctCalXItemId=*))(!(ctCalXItemId=*:*)))(objectClass=organizationalPerson))

on an entry that looks like:

dn: uid=username,ou=users,ou=ctime,ou=Applications,dc=ivy,dc=tec,dc=in,dc=us
objectClass: organizationalPerson
objectClass: uidObject
cn: username
sn: username
uid: username
userPassword: {crypt}stuff

The filter worked fine in 2.0.27.  It's a big problem, as we can't
currently add users to our calendar server (CorporateTime).  The filter
*does,* however, work if you pull either half of the or'd pair.  Is more
info needed?
