Solaris 8 and test008-concurrency fails

I'm trying to get openldap 2.1.12 installed on a Solaris 8 sparc
platform with Berkeley database 4.1.25.

The Berkeley database was configured as follows:
./configure --enable-java --enable-rpc --enable-tcl --enable-test \
--enable-cxx --with-PACKAGE=yes

Make test fails with the following diagnostics:
>>>>> Starting test008-concurrency ...

Waiting 5 seconds for slapadd to build slapd database...
