Index problems

I am using open ldap 2.1.18 with the bdb back end with the sleepycat
4.1.38 on RH7.3.

The problem I am having is I am getting this error when running the slapd
and try to access the data:

ber_flush: 14 bytes to sd 15
<= bdb_equality_candidates: index_param failed (18)
bdb(dc=msu,dc=edu): DB_ENV->log_flush: LSN past current end-of-log
bdb(dc=msu,dc=edu): DB_ENV->log_flush: LSN past current end-of-log
(this last line gets repeated indefinately.)

I built the database with ldapmodify, then I shut down the server, and
changed some index setting and rebuilt it using slapindex.

There are ~370k records in this database and it takes a long time to do
this on the pokey machine I have.

I need the speed of the bdb backend but i want to put this into production
should I be backing down to the 2.0.x series and using ldbm or did I just
do something flakey?
