They are the transaction log for BDB,

I installed openldap on a sun solaris box. A huge number of 
log.0000000001
log.0000000002
log.0000000003
log.0000000004
log.0000000005
log.0000000006
log.0000000007
....
files are generated in the data directory. Each one are 10meg in size. 
-What are these files for? 
-How can I disable this from being generated?
-Can I remove them
