Bind 9 has an "sdb" backend that queries LDAP directly.  There is some
documentation and links in my LDAP presentation,
ftp://kalamazoolinux.org/pub/pdf/ldapv3.pdf  The documentation isn't
complete as I got tied up in other things,  but the sites at the links
describe how to build the backend.
