To answer my own question: Yes, it was off-topic.
Thanks to the info on bugs.php.net, I made a gdb-trace:

gdb /usr/sbin/apache
run -X
bt

The info stated there was a lookup for www-data (user or group), and
it appeared to disappear when i changed in nsswitch.conf:

groups:  files ldap		in
groups:  ldap

I repost this on the nss_ldap list.
