userPassword and simpleBind

Hi!

Against which password entry a simple bind is compared? Is this a 
password which is an attribute (userPassword) of his users object, 
specified by the dn in the simple bind principal parameter?

From slapd.conf: access to * by self write

Does this mean, that the authenticated user (with it's dn and it's 
userPassword) will only be permitted to access the entries?
