Re: DNS or /etc/hosts?



This has nothing to do with LDAP per se.   ldapsearch and other ldap tools
make use of your systems resolver library to resolve DNS names, so if your
nsswitch.conf has something like "dns files", then your nameservers in
resolv.conf will be consulted first before /etc/hosts.   This will be true
of any other network applications or utilities as well.
